Welcome to the Personal Page for Mary Thigpen
Most of you know my husband's story: Junior Thigpen was a happy-go-lucky guy who loved fishing and all sports. When the kidneys started failing and the surgeries didn't help, he began dialysis. At first he refused to accept a kidney from me, but the doctors told him he would have to do that IF he wanted to live. So, in April 1998, we had the transplant. For nine years, he was once again able to enjoy fishing and ballgames – until cancer and then sepsis took over. July 2007, he was gone. Junior had been an avid fundraiser for AKF! Watching him as he struggled with his health, we vowed to help others by raising as much $$ as possible in the annual Walk-a-Thons. Our team consists of good friends Cindy Killen (whose father W.O. Killen also died due to kidney complications), Debbie Evans, my daughter Deborah, and myself. Your support will help our team continue to help kidney patients ONE STEP AT A TIME. Thank you SO much!!
