As you know, kidney disease has been a part of our family for a long time, and many of you know my dad’s story. He has been very fortunate to have a slow decline in his kidney function since his diagnosis while I was still in college. He is now on dialysis treatments to work in the place of his kidneys. For several years now, he has been on a kidney transplant list, waiting, hoping, and praying for that amazing gift of life!
In Alabama, over 400,000 people suffer from kidney disease and 8,000 patients are on life-sustaining dialysis with about 275 kidney transplants being performed each year. Alabama ranks 5th in the nation for the occurrence of kidney disease. This chronic illness is rampant in Alabama, particularly among African-Americans. Many patients live at or below the poverty level due to its devastating effects.
On April 27th I will be helping kidney patients in our state by walking in the 2019 Alabama Kidney Foundation's Annual Huntsville Kidney Walk! The Foundation provides financial assistance, education and support programs to thousands of kidney disease patients in need each year.
You too can make a difference in the lives of these critically ill patients by supporting our efforts. It's easy! You can sponsor my team by making a tax-deductible gift to the Alabama Kidney Foundation...and we'll do the rest!
Your support will not only enable us to reach our goal, but will ensure that the Alabama Kidney Foundation can continue to help kidney patients during difficult times. Thanks in advance for supporting our efforts to help so many afflicted with this terrible disease.
